California Health Care Foundation: Half of Californians Lack Trust in Health Care. Cost Is a Big Reason Why.
Last week, we released a statewide survey, conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago, that asked Californians a fundamental question: Do you trust the health care system? Nearly half said they have little or no trust, and the data points to cost as one of the biggest reasons why.
Among Californians who have skipped care because they couldn't afford it, nearly two-thirds lack trust in the system. And three-quarters say knowing costs upfront would earn higher trust. When people can't afford care, they don't just go without it — they lose faith that the system is built for them. Affordability isn't only a financial issue. It's a trust issue.
